GREAT BRITAIN AND SOVIET UNION SIGN A TREATY OF MUTUAL ASSISTANCE.

 


JULY 30

POLAND AND SOVIET UNION SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO RESTORE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE TWO GOVERNMENTS, TO ANNUL SOVIET-GERMAN TREATIES OF 1939 AS TO TERRITORIAL CHANGES IN POLAND AND TO EXCHANGE AMBASSADORS.

 


AUG. 14

POLAND AND SOVIET UNION SIGN A MILITARY AGREEMENT BY WHICH ALL POLISH NATIONALS IN RUSSIA ARE TO BE RELEASED. POLISH ARMY FORMED IN RUSSIA WILL CONSTITUTE PART OF THE SOVEREIGN FORCES OF THE POLISH REPUBLIC.

 


AUG. 9

THE ATLANTIC CHARTER

W. CHURCHILL AND F. D. ROOSEVELT MEET ON THE AMERICAN CRUISER “AUGUSTA” IN THE PLACENTIA BAY OFF THE COAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND (LAT. 47.00 N – LONG. 54.30 W), AND SIGN “THE ATLANTIC CHARTER”.

THE 3 MAIN PRINCIPLES OF THE CHARTER ARE:

  1. THERE WOULD BE NO TERRITORIAL OR OTHER AGGRANDISEMENT BY THE UNITED STATES OR BRITAIN.
  2. IN THE FUTURE, TERRITORIAL CHANGES WOULD BE MADE BY SELF-DETERMINATION ONLY.
  3. EVERY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE A RIGHT TO CHOOSE ITS OWN GOVERNMENT.

 


DEC. 4

GEN. W. SIKORSKI AND MARSHAL J.V. STALIN SIGN THE “DECLARATION OF FRIENDSHIP” BETWEEN POLAND AND SOVIET UNION.

POLISH ARMY HEADQUARTERS ARE OPENED IN YANGI YUL, NEAR TASHKENT IN KAZAKSTAN. 25,000 POLISH SOLDIERS ARE SHIPPED TO LIBYA TO REINFORCE THE CARPATHIAN BRIGADE. 2,000 AIRMEN AND SAILORS ARE SHIPPED TO GREAT BRITAIN.
